Nag Tibba Trek: A Journey to the Serpent’s Peak

The Nag Tibba Trek, also known as the Serpent’s Peak Trek, is a fantastic adventure in the Garhwal Himalayas, offering trekkers a perfect mix of stunning vistas, diverse landscapes, and a touch of cultural richness. The Beginning: Pantwari Village


Our journey commenced in the quaint village of Pantwari, which is about a 4 to 5-hour drive from Dehradun or Mussoorie. Pantwari serves as the starting point for the Nag Tibba Trek, welcoming us with its charming atmosphere and friendly locals. The excitement was palpable as we prepared to set off on our journey to the summit.

Trekking Through Enchanting Forests


The trail from Pantwari to our first campsite took us through lush forests of oak and rhododendron. The path was adorned with vibrant wildflowers, and the sound of birds chirping created a soothing background melody. The forest trail was not only a treat for the eyes but also provided a cool, refreshing shade as we made our way up the mountain.

Reaching Nag Tibba Base Camp


After a few hours of trekking, we reached the Nag Tibba Base Camp, a serene meadow surrounded by dense forests. The campsite offered stunning views of the valley below and the surrounding peaks. The next morning, we set out early for the final ascent to the Nag Tibba Summit, standing at an altitude of 3,020 meters (9,915 feet). The climb was moderately challenging, but the promise of spectacular views kept us motivated. As we reached the summit, we were rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges, including peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Kedarnath, and Gangotri. The sense of accomplishment and the awe-inspiring scenery made the effort worthwhile.

Best Time to Trek


The Nag Tibba Trek can be undertaken almost year-round, but the best times are:

  • September to March: Ideal for winter trekking, offering snow-covered trails and a magical winter wonderland experience.

  • April to June: For lush green meadows, blooming flowers, and clear skies.
